We are recruiting volunteers to help us deliver the autumn COVID-19 vaccination program at Askham Bar Community Care Centre.

As a volunteer, you’ll guide patients on-site to make sure the vaccination process runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible. You may be asked to support us with many tasks, including acting as a steward and helping to check in patients.

To enquire, please email the team at nimbuscare.volunteer@nhs.net

Frequently asked questions about the Volunteer role at Askham Bar Community Care Centre

What skills and experience do I need to become a volunteer?

You don’t need any specific skills or experience to become a volunteer at Nimbuscare. We ask that volunteers are friendly and enthusiastic, as well as having a calm and patient manner to want to help others. Various roles will be available across our Community Care Centre’s and will be clearly stated in the individual role descriptions.

How much time will I need to commit?

There is no requirement for a minimum number of hours we require our volunteers to commit to. Our shift lengths are typically 4 hours and vary between the following shift patterns;

  • 08:20-12:20
  • 12:15-16:15
  • 16:00-20:00

Additionally, we are happy to support flexible working for volunteers with additional commitments that fall outside of the allocated shift patterns.

What will I get out of volunteering?

Volunteering is a great way to use your existing skills or further your knowledge working within a healthcare environment, as well as meeting new people and gaining confidence.

Will I get expenses reimbursed?

We will reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket expenses incurred while volunteering. For example, for travelling as part of their volunteer role, or for bus fares to and from their place of volunteering. These must be agreed in advance with the Service lead. Nimbuscare will pay 0.40p per mile under 20 miles, payment will not be made for miles over this.

Do you ask for references and a DBS check?

Nimbuscare Ltd works with Cataphract  https://www.cataphract.co.uk/ (a screening and vetting service) to run basic DBS checks. DBS checks are applicable to all volunteers over the age of 16 years.
