Allergy
Allergies occur when the body’s immune system overreacts to typically harmless substances, known as allergens. Common allergens include pollen, animal dander, dust mites, and certain foods such as milk, nuts, and shellfish. These reactions can cause symptoms like itchy eyes, sneezing, rashes, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis.
Allergy symptoms:
Itchy watery eyes | Cough |
Sneezing |
Chest tightness |
Blocked nose | Lip and facial swellings |
Runny nose | Itchy rashes |
Wheezing | Vomiting and diarrhoea |
Shortness of breath | Anaphylaxis* |
*Anaphylaxis is a life threatening allergic reaction and may involve throat swelling (which affects your ability to breathe), wheezing and collapse. This requires emergency medical treatment and adrenaline injections.
